How to get from Phuket to Koh Lanta

It is only 90 km between Phuket and Koh Lanta if measured as a crow flies but travelling overland brings the total distance between the two islands to about 240 km. Phuket, the largest and most popular of the Thai islands, is connected to Koh Lanta by buses, minivans, taxi and ferries. Also, highspeed ferries only operate during high seasons, mainly November through to April. During the low season, you have better chances relying on buses, minivans or taxis. Your preferred mode of transport will depend on the time you have, how much you want to spend, and what is available at the time.

From the Rassada Pier, you can board a Satun Pakbara Club speedboat at 8.30am or 12.30pm and alight in Ban Sala Dan, Koh Lanta one and a half hours later.

You can also use the Tigerline Travel high-speed ferry that leaves the pier for Koh Lanta Ban Sala Dan Pier at 9.00am. Whichever means you use, your ticket will cost THB 1,500.

Tigerline Travel, Sea Angel Cruise or Phi Phi Cruiser all offer an option to pick you up at your hotel in Phuket what adds to the cost of an ordinary ferry ticket THB200-THB250. Expect to pay for this combination service with the above mentioned providers THB 1,750, THB 1,400, and THB 1,200 respectively.

Tip: The Sea Angel Cruise ferry makes a stop at Koh Phi Phi and, therefore, arrives later than the rest. Phi Phi island entrance fee is 20THB.

Phi Phi Cruiser also offers an extra ferry that leaves at 12.00pm for the same cost. Soft drinks, water, coffee, tea, and snacks are included in your ticket for the morning trips, not the afternoon trip.

Tigerline travel also offers joint van+ferry tickets from the Phuket Airport to the Saladan Pier and Koh Jum at a cost of THB 1,750.

Whether you are boarding a ferry from the pier or waiting to be picked up from your hotel, ensure that you are there 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

Phuket to Koh Lanta Destination Reviews

Fun ride in bad weather. Would not recommend it in choppy sea if your stomach is weak. The crew was nice and handed bags and watter to the customers.

The shuttle to pier was on time and comfortable.. and they took our bags and transferred to speed boat which was very nice. But the seas were so rough and our boat seemed like it would capsize any minute. I feel these conditions were not any we should have been traveling in. It was very dangerous

Got ripped off at saladan pier when we were all thrown into the back of open back trucks and demanded another 900 bhat to take us 25 minutes up the road. We negotiated down to 600 as our hotel was closer than they said it was but the end experience was very poor. The pier just down from the saladan pier has many taxis but they purposely do not stop there so that you are forced to pay their fee. We have taken many taxi’s in Thailand and this was hugely expensive and not worth the cost. Very uncomfortable journey.

Departed and arrived punctually, so whole the trip was 6 hours sharp. Stopped briefly several times to pick up people in bus stops and in Krabi airport, also 20 minutes for lunch. There is not much space between seats and they cannot be reclined. AC was at a nice temperature. At some point the driver offered to take each passenger to their hotels/prefered stops; for me it was 80THB being the furthest which was therefore quite cheap.

There was no information where or when we had to change the boat, they just told us right at the time that we had to do it. In open waters with two backpacks we hado to change the boat. The second one was even older than the first one and smelled really really bad!

Efficient and well run service though the arrival time was inaccurate due to unknown stops at various islands, effecting onward travel

Standard Thailand ferry service. Gets you were you are going, but is always a mad scramble getting on off around (you will stop in middle of ocean and get transfered to various smaller boats based on where you are going in particular). If you are not used to these boats, they are fine, but keep you valubles on you/in a dry bag as your big luggae will be stored outside in a pile with everyone else.

Left on time, arrived on time. The driver even dropped us off at our hotel for a cheaper price than a taxi would have been. Great service and I didn’t think it stopped too often either.
